This project will help doctors give young children across Washington state new books when they come in for checkups, and help families understand the importance of reading aloud at home. Reach Out and Read is a national proven program that supports parents as their child's first teacher. At checkups from 6 months through 5 years, Reach Out and Read doctors give each child a developmentally and culturally appropriate book to keep, while supporting parents with individualized information about how to read together and support language and literacy at home. By purchasing a gift card, the money donated to Reach Out and Read will go towards buying books for children in Washington State. Please make your purchases count by supporting this project, and tell your friends about this great opportunity to make a difference in young children's lives today. Thank you!
Currently serving over 81,000 children at 127 health care facilities, Reach Out and Read Washington State supports parents while partnering with state and community early learning efforts, so that young children will be healthy and ready for success in school. We support parents as their child’s first teacher during regular doctor visits with a free, evidence-based early literacy program starting in infancy. We connect the health and education systems, and have an immediate impact on large numbers of children and families. Together with our partners we seek to close the preparation gap for children in low-income families and children of color, while increasing early literacy and school readiness skills for all children in Washington state. Launched by pediatricians in 2007, Reach Out and Read Washington State has become a valuable partner in early learning policy and systems development, while simultaneously implementing the largest parenting education and early childhood literacy program in the state. We have demonstrated our capacity to rapidly grow this cost-effective, evidence-based, proven program through public and private partnerships.
Project Note
For roughly every 500 dollars in gift card purchases, we will be able to provide 25 books for children across the state. The more gift cards you purchase, the more you are doing to help literacy in Washington.
